Kehlani insists earning Grammy nominations “hasn’t changed anything”.
The 29-year-old singer has received five nods from the Recording Academy during their career, and while they are grateful for the recognition, Kehlani doesn’t let it go to their head.
They told CBS: “I wanna say — and this is in the most respectful and grateful way — that it hasn’t changed anything. These things shouldn’t shape your perception of your art as an artist. They should just confirm that you’re getting better at telling your story.”
At this weekend’s Grammys, Kehlani is nominated for Best Progressive R’n’B Album for ‘Crash’, Best R’n’B Song for ‘After Hours’, and Best Melodic Rap Performance for their feature on the song ‘Kehlani’ by rapper Jordan Adetunji.
This week, Kehlani played their biggest headline show to date at London’s The O2 arena on Wednesday (29.01.25), but announced they were cancelling meet and greets after coming down with flu.
The singer was then seen to by a doctor and received an IV drip, oxygen therapy and steroid shots and later took to their Instagram Story to declare the meet and greets were back on.
They updated fans: “I’m not canceling b******.
“fever reducer.
“iv drip.
“oxygen therapy.
“I sound like S*** but let’s do this thing (sic)”
Kehlani believes they and their team came down with the infection in Amsterdam and had felt better after being on “light vocal rest” but woke up the next day feeling worse.
The ‘Good Life’ singer had posted: “meet and greet is canceled and you will be refuned. I have the flu, a bunch of us got it in Amsterdam, i thought i felt better yesterday with all the meds i got and being on light vocal rest.
“i woke up with energy, thinking everything was fine and as the day has gone by I cant even talk. i’m really nervous, I have a vocal doctor coming thru to make sure i give it my best shot but im seriously trying everything. i can’t believe it (sic).”
