Sir Ringo Starr loves the “atmosphere” of Los Angeles.
The 84-year-old icon – who first found fame as a member of the Beatles – has lived in Los Angeles on and off since 1973, and he admits to loving everything about the city.
Ringo – who was born and raised in Liverpool – told Mojo magazine: “When I first came to America and we landed in New York, I wanted to live in New York. And then we want on tours around and we came to Los Angeles, I’d think, ‘Uh … maybe Los Angeles. No New York! Maybe Los Angeles. L … A!’
“I just loved the atmosphere. I loved the light. I loved the heat.”
Despite this, Ringo has never been tempted to surf in the Pacific Ocean.
The chart-topping star shared: “It took me seven years to go to the ocean.
“A limo took me down the Pacific Coast Highway. I got out the car, walked across the beach, put my feet in the water, turned around, walked back to the car and went for lunch.”
Meanwhile, Ringo recently claimed that Taylor Swift’s popularity is the “closest thing” to Beatlemania for this generation.
The drummer – who starred in the Beatles alongside John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison – can see similarities between the fanaticism that surrounded the legendary band and Taylor’s loyal fans.
Ringo told American Songwriter: “I think Taylor Swift is great anyway. She’s pulling them in, you know.”
Ringo first crossed paths with Taylor at the Grammy Awards when she was 14 years old.
He recalled: “I always have to mention that the first time I met her, she was 14.
“She was at the Grammys with her mother. And then, I saw a photo of her the other day, just yesterday, of her and her mother.”
